AMALGAM

AMALGAM presents a fusion music band consisting of young upcoming musicians. Shyam Ravishankar on the Electric Violin, Surya Kamal on the Keyboard, Akshay Ram on the Mrudangam and Akshay Ganesh will be on the drums. The band will also feature a guest performance by Dr. V. Kamakoti of IIT Madras on the Electric Violin.

Shyam Ravishankar is a 19 year old 3rd year B.E. student from Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering. He is a student of Sangita Kalanidhi Dr. M. Chandrasekaran and Padma Vibhushan Chevalier Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna. He has performed over 500 concerts over the course of 10 years and has won several international, national, state and regional level awards and competitions. Shyam enjoys linking his passion, music, with his profession, engineering and has worked on a “Korvai Generator application along with Dr. V. Kamakoti which has received praise from leading musicians. He also developed several other music related applications while interning at Microsoft in the summer of 2015.

amalgam-2Surya Kamal passed out of Loyola in the year 2015 and presently works in HCL Technologies. He completed 8 grades of keyboard in Trinity college, London. He is a singer and a keyboarder who composed first album VOIMG (Voice Of India’s Missing girls ) in 2011 at the age of 15. Surya has composed music for around 15 short films and is the lead keyboarder for the bands Augmented 6th and Vavval Brothers.

Akshay Ram is a Commerce graduate and a university rank holder of Madras University and also is studying Cost and Management Accountancy (CMA)  in Chennai.  He has been learning  Mrudangam for the past 18 years.  His Gurus are Sangeetha Kalanidhi  Padma Vibhushana Shri. Umayalpuram K Sivaraman and Shri. Ghatam V Suresh.  He has accompanied various senior artists and upcoming artists in several leading sabhas all over India  and in other countries as well. He has won several national, state and regional level awards and accolades and is one of the most promising young musicians of today.

amalgam-1Akshay Ganesh is currently pursuing his Engineering Degree at KCG College of Technology. He started his musical career at 12. He played his first concert, on the violin, along with his father at Tatvaloka auditorium, Chennai.  Akshay started playing the drums when he turned 15 under the guidance of Sh. Jeoraj Stanley George. He also learnt the Mrudangam from Sh. Mannargudi A. Easwaran and Sh. .Anantha R. Krishnan.  He is also plays other percussion instruments such as cajon, djembe, etc. Akshay has also judged many college level competitions such as Techofes (CEG), Milan(SRM university), Sathyabhama University and many more.

kamakotiDr V. Kamakoti is currently a Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. Prof. Kamakoti is an accomplished   violinist in the lineage of Parur school.
