Manindra Agrawal and Yadati Narahari are THE ACCS-CDAC FOUNDATION AWARD WINNERS FOR 2014

BANGALORE – ACCS, the Advanced Computing and Communications Society, today announced the names of Dr. Manindra Agrawal of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and Prof. Yadati Narahari of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore as the winners of the prestigious ACCS-CDAC Foundation award for 2014. The Award recognizes their outstanding contributions to the body of knowledge in Computational Sciences and Information Theory.

The Award instituted in 2004, by the Advanced Computing and Communications Society and the Center for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), fosters the development and dissemination of the theory and applications of Computing and Communications sciences. ACCS-CDAC Award is given to individuals with outstanding contributions and accomplishments that have had a significant and demonstrable effect on the practice of computing and communications.

The Award recognizes Dr. Manindra Agrawal for his path breaking work in designing the first deterministic polynomial-time test for primality of numbers and defining the bounds on the arithmetic complexity of polynomials which is one of the central open problems in complexity theory. Prof. Narahari is recognized for his contributions to Game Theory and the theory of mechanism design which have been instrumental in significantly influencing network economics and social sciences.

“Dr. Agrawal’s and Dr. Narahari’s contributions to mathematical theories, algorithms and Game Theory have influenced the design of many next-generation systems,” said ACCS President Dr. Saragur Srinidhi.

“The ACCS-CDAC Award highlights the essential role of computing and communications in the technology-driven world,” noted Prof. Rajat Moona, Director General of CDAC. “We need to recognize remarkable researchers who make a difference to our future and honor them”, he added.

The ACCS-CDAC Foundation Award which carries a cash prize, a citation and a plaque will be presented at the inaugural session of the annual Advanced Computing and Communications Conference (ADCOM 2014) in Bangalore at the Electronic City campus Wipro Technologies.
