NIT, Hamirpur bags top prizes at ACCS ARM Design Contest 2015

The Advanced Computing and Communications Society (ACCS) completed the second edition of the ACCS ARM Student Design Contest on Smart Transport Systems at IIITB on Saturday 26th March 2016.

The Design Contest was aimed at innovative solutions implementing Smart Transportation Subsystems using a combination of embedded system, wireless and sensor technologies. This edition of the contest received as many as 160 entries ranging from Cooperative Driving Systems using vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication, traffic management systems, safety systems, disincentives for unnecessary honking to Wireless-based system using RFID tags to locate, identify, monitor moving vehicles.

After the knock-out round at ADCOM 2015 at IIT Madras in September, 25 top teams were short listed for the final round. A jury comprised of automobile industry experts and academia evaluated the short listed proposals from across the country. Upon their recommendation, the top prize carrying a cash award of Rs. 100,000/- went to the team from National Institute of Technology (NIT), Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh for their entry “Priority based Traffic Management System”. This team of students – Abhinandan Jain, Chirag Tyagi, Mahin Saxena and Samyak Mehta were mentored by Prof. Philemon Daniel.

The second prize of Rs. 50,000/- was bagged by the team, also from NIT, Hamirpur, represented by Rittwik Sood, Vivek Yadav and Shubham Sharma for their effort on “Smart Honking Systems”. They were mentored by Prof. Surendra Soni.

The team from Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology, Bengaluru won the third prize of Rs. 25,000/- for their work on ‘Child safety in parked vehicles”. The team – G. N. Pruthvi and C. Karthick were mentored by Prof. Sankar Dasiga.

This prizes were sponsored by PES University and TVS Motors. The Awards were presented by Dr. Jabez Dhinagar, Vice President of Advanced Engineering Group at TVS Motors who presided over the Awards Evening.
