The Award recognizes Prof. Kamakoti for his contributions in the fields of VLSI design and computer architecture resulting in the development of India’s first RISC-V family of processors.  Prof. Vijay Kumar is recognized for his seminal contributions in error-correcting codes and signal design for wireless communication which has been adopted into WCDMA Cellular Standards.

The ACCS-CDAC Foundation Award carries a cash prize of Rs. 100,000/-, and a citation. This will be presented at the inaugural session of the annual Advanced Computing and Communications Conference (ADCOM 2018) at The International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIITB) on 21st September 2018.

“Prof. Kamakoti’s work is India’s first successful attempt in developing a comprehensive range of processor families from tiny IoT class processors to server grade cores?, noted Dr. H.P. Khincha, Chairman of Karnataka State Innovation Council. ‘His effort highlights the capability of Indian institutions in delivering translational research’, he added.

“Prof. Vijay Kumar’s work resolved a 20-year-old mystery in coding theory relating to the apparent linear behavior of certain nonlinear codes,” said Dr. Sadagopan, Director of IIIT Bangalore.

‘ACCS congratulates the award recipients for their momentous contributions to the body of knowledge in Electrical Sciences,’ said Dr. Saragur Srinidhi, President of ACCS.

The Award instituted in 2004, by the Advanced Computing and Communications Society and the Center for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), fosters the development and dissemination of the theory and applications of Computing and Communications sciences.
