Dr. V. Kamakoti,
Director – IITMadras

Dr. Kamakoti Veezhinathan is the current Director of the IIT Madras, and a Professor in the Department of Computer Science Engineering, IIT Madras.  He took over as the Director from Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthi. Dr. Kamakoti, is credited with leading the efforts for SHAKTI (microprocessor), India’s first indigenous RISC-V processor development program.

Dr. Kamakoti previously served as a Head of India’s National Taskforce on Artificial Intelligence, and is a leading expert on technological consultations. He is a member of the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB), and is routinely appointed on key panels for technological consultations regarding national security.

Apart from being a noted scientist, Dr.Kamakoti has a keen interest in organic farming, and actively pursues Carnatic Violin recitation. He is also heading the IIT Madras Music Club as its President.

Dr.Debabrata Das is serving as Director of IIIT Bangalore (IIITB). Before joining IIITB in 2002, he had served at G S Sanyal School of Telecommunication at IIT Kharagpur and later at Kirana Networks in New Jersey, USA. He is Project Officer of National Mission for Interdisciplinary Cyber Physical Systems in the areas of Advanced Communication System, from DST, Govt of India. He was PI of multiple sponsored projects from Intel, Hewlett Packard, Microsoft, Motorola Research, Tejas Networks, Nokia, Govt. of India, in the areas of Broadband Wireless MAC/QoS/Energy-saving, IMS. His main areas of research interest are IoT and Wireless Access Network’s MAC, QoS, Power saving. Dr. Das received his Ph.D. degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.

Biography: Professor Alex James received the Ph.D. degree from the Queensland Micro and Nanotechnology Centre, Griffith University, Brisbane, QLD, Australia. He works as a Professor of AI hardware at School of Electronic Systems and Automation, and Dean (Academic) at Digital University Kerala. He works in the broad area of brain-inspired systems, memristive systems, intelligent semiconductor devices, analog circuits and imaging systems. He is Prof-in-charge of Maker Village that supports over 80+ hardware startups. He is Chief Investigator of the centre for Intelligent IoT Sensors, and India Innovation Centre for Graphene, developing new products to the market. Dr. James was the founding chair for IEEE Kerala Section Circuits and Systems Society. He is a member of IEEE CASS Technical committee on Nonlinear Circuits and Systems, IEEE CASS Technical committee on Cellular Nanoscale Networks and Memristor Array Computing, IEEE Consumer Technology Society Technical Committee on Quantum in Consumer Technology (QCT),  Technical Committee on Machine learning, Deep learning and AI in CE (MDA) , Member of BCS’ Fellows Technical Advisory Group (F-TAG) and Member of SIG on Electronics for Agrifood. He was an editorial member of Information Fusion, Elsevier, and is an Associate Editor for Frontiers in Neuroscience (Section: Neuromorphic Systems), IEEE ACCESS, IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computational Intelligence (2017-18) (Guest associate editor),  IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems 1 (2018-present) and IEEE Open Journal of Circuits and Systems (2022-present). Dr. Ramesh Vaddi (SM’17) completed Ph.D. in microelectronics and VLSI from Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, India in 2011. He was a senior research fellow at National University of Singapore during 2018-19, postdoctoral scholar at Pennsylvania State University, USA during 2013 and postdoctoral research fellow in the school of electrical and electronic engineering, Nanyang Technological University during, 2011-2012. At Penstate, he was involved in the Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC) sponsored projects “Centre for Low Energy Systems Technology (LEAST) and NSF sponsored Nanosystems Engineering Research Centre for Advanced Self-Powered Systems of Integrated Sensors and Technologies (ASSIST). Dr.Vaddi has worked as an assistant professor in IIIT Naya Raipur and Shiv Nadar University, India and presently he is an associate professor in ECE Department at SRM University, Amaravati, AP, and India. He has published research outcomes in several top IEEE conferences and peer reviewed International journals in the devices and circuits and has about 50 research publications and 2 USA patents to his credit. His research interests include Post-CMOS devices for energy efficient VLSI Designs, Hardware security for IoT, VLSI Accelerators and In-memory computing architectures for Deep Learning.

He has been leading national standardization initiatives at BIS, the Indian national standards development organization, in Smart Cities, Smart Manufacturing, Smart Energy, and Active Assisted Living as the Chairman of the Smart Infrastructure Sectional Committee L TD 28, along with contributing to multiple other SDOs and initiatives. Globally, he is Vice Chair-Strategy and Project Leader of two international standards in IEC SyC Smart Cities, a Co-Editor of the ISO/IEC JTC1/WG 11 Four Standards, and a member of the Steering Committee of OCEANIS, beyond proactive contributions in many committees in global SDOs.
